LEAGUE DRAFT/OPTION REQUIREMENTS

All teams requiring a draft will be filled by an open draft system of player selection supervised by the Board. The option of certain players will be held prior to the League draft. The draft order for the first round will be determined for each League by a random drawing at the Managers’ meeting with the order of selection reversing for each succeeding round.

1. A team manager will be allowed to option his/her child (if he/she has one) outright before the draft begins. One team coach will be allowed to option his/her child outright before the draft begins. The manager’s and coach’s child(ren) will be placed on the manager’s team in the draft round determined by the managers and League Representative of the respective level.

2. A manager and coach pair with two first round draft choices will be allowed at the discretion of the League Representative and the Board. If two first round draft choices are determined for a team, the team will not participate in the random drawing that sets the draft order for all teams. Rather, the team will be positioned in the first draft slot of the 1st round. The team will not draft in the 1st through 3rd rounds, but will be given a supplemental pick at the end of the 3rd round. The team will resume drafting at its normal spot at the end of the 4th round. Should this affect more than one team, a blind draw among these teams will determine their draft order.

3. If it is determined that children of the manager and coach pair are slotted in the same round (two through ten), the team will draft in that round, but will not draft in the round immediately before or after. As an example, a team with two players slotted in the 2nd round would draft in their normal 2nd round position, but would not draft in the 1st or 3rd round. A team with two 4th round players would draft in the 4th, but not the 3rd or 5th, etc. A manager and coach pair may have only a total of 2 players slotted on their team, and may not have a Sponsor Player (defined below) slotted before the draft, unless the manager and coach pair have only 1 player slotted on their team.

4. If there is a discrepancy in agreement as to which round a child should be placed, the manager may request an appeal to the Head Manager and Board for that level. A coach’s option may not be allowed when the League Representative determines that the manager and coach’s children will be first round draft choices that may affect the balance of the league if placed together.

5. A manager who wishes to option the brother or sister of a player on their team or of a player selected in the draft must declare the name of the player and the round in which they intend to option the brother or sister prior to the draft beginning. This intention must be declared before the draft begins or at the time such player is selected and the brother or sister name must be optioned in the round declared.

6. The draft will continue until all players have been selected and placed on a team. All players will play on the team and in the league where they are drafted. During and after the draft, player trades and/or requests for player swaps will not be allowed.

7. The last round of the draft will go in the reverse order of the first round so that the team with the first pick in the draft (or teams with two slotted first picks) will get the last player(s) in the draft. Example: if there are 4 players left in the last round, team number 4 would pick first, followed by team 3 and team 2. Team 1 would pick last.

8. The Head Manager and/or his/her designee shall note the player’s name, school and grade. Upon completion of the draft, the registrar’s record of the draft is final and no exceptions will be considered.

9. At each level, a player’s family may decide to be a team sponsor and have their child play on that team (a “Sponsor Player”). Each team is required to draft one and only one Sponsor Player if there are an equal number of sponsors per level. This is done to ensure a Sponsor Player gets to play on the team his/her family sponsored. If the Sponsor Player is the manager or coach’s player, that team may not draft another Sponsor Player, and a Sponsor Player may not be slotted before the draft, unless a manager and coach pair have only 1 player slotted on their team.

10. Late entrants to the draft will be assigned to the team with vacancies, at the discretion of the Board.
