Outfield Do or Dies Training Video

Alright guys, the next thing we're going to do is focus on "do or dies" from the outfield. This technique involves fielding the ball outside of your glove foot and then working into a crow hop to throw the ball for long distance.

Drill Setup and Execution

For this drill, we'll assume the player is right-handed (glove is on the left hand).

  • Start with your left foot (your glove-side foot) forward.
  • Position your glove on the ground, just outside of your left foot.
  • To properly practice transfers, start with the baseball already inside your glove.

Coaching Tip: It's cheating if you just have the ball in your hand and start from there. Always practice your transfers by starting with the ball in the glove.

So again, the sequence is: start with your glove foot forward, glove outside the foot, then...Field it, Crow Hop, and Throw!

If you're running in to get a baseball, the motion is the same: you field it and throw.

It's cheating if you just have the ball in your hand and you go right there. So again, start with your glove foot forward, your glove is outside your foot. Field it, crow hop, and throw. Okay, field it, crow hop, and throw. Now, if you're running in getting a baseball, you field it and throw.
