Glenview Youth Baseball offers interested students 12 years of age and older the opportunity to work as a baseball umpire in Glenview.  Umpiring is a part-time job that provides after-school and weekend work opportunities. In addition to providing hard-working students the ability to earn money, umpiring for Glenview Youth Baseball is a great opportunity for students to learn to take responsibility, be assertive, and to work cooperatively with their peers and adults.

Umpires must have work permits and attend GYB umpire training.

Q:  What are the minimum requirements for attending umpire training sessions?

A:  New umpires are required to attend at least two training sessions.  Returning umpires are required to attend only one session.

Q:  What happens if I turn 12during the season?  Do I have to wait until I turn 12 to umpire or can I start like others on opening day?

A:  You have to wait till you turn 12 to umpire games.

You can not get an employment certificate online. They are issued by your school. Follow the steps below.

1. Obtain a "Letter of Intent to Hire" from your new employer, Glenview Youth Baseball (download below). The letter should list the hours you will be working and what duties you will be performing.
2. Take the letter to your school. You will request to see the school administrator (issuing officer) responsible for issuing Employment Certificates. Remember to be nice to this person and say please and thank you--they're helping you, so be respectful!
3. Receive the certificate. The administrator will review your letter to ensure that your job is safe and that the hours won't conflict with school schedule. If everything is fine, you will be issued an employment certificate. Give this certificate to the GYB Umpire Chairman.
